NEW DELHI - Indian IT and BPO firm Mphasis (BSE:526299) on Thursday posted a 17 per cent decline in its net profit at Rs 219.29 crore (US$48.5 million) for the second quarter (Q2) ended April 30, 2011, compared to the same period last fiscal.
The company had a net profit of Rs 263.10 crore in the quarter ended April 30, 2010, Mphasis said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

TAIWAN'S ACER BEGINS OPERATIONS AT CHINESE BASE IN CHONGQING
TAIPEI - Taiwan's Acer Inc. (TAIEX:2353), the world's No. 2 PC vendor, said Thursday it had begun operations at its second Chinese base in Chongqing, which will contribute to a third of its mobile computer shipments this year.
The western China city offers excellent infrastructure, including land and air transportation, and a stable supply of manpower, which are expected to enhance Acer's worldwide business and logistics, the Taiwan-based company said in an email statement.

SAO PAOLO - An executive of the Taiwan-based personal computer vendor Acer Inc. (TAIEX:2353) said in Brazil Wednesday that the company will launch two models of tablet computers in the Latin American country in the second half of this year, in view of the growing demand there.
The company will introduce a 10-inch and a seven-inch tablet computer that will run on the Android 3.1 operating system, said Emmanuel Fromont, Acer's corporate vice president and president of Pan America Operations.

KARACHI - Pakistan's Soneri Bank Limited recently entered into an agreement with Microsoft Pakistan to develop an information technology (IT) infrastructure for the bank, a statement said on Tuesday.
The Microsoft Enterprise Agreement will enable Soneri Bank to use Microsoft Virtualisation, Unified Communication, System Management, Windows Client and Portal software technology, the statement said.
