NSW: Scorching heat arrives in NSW

Most of southern New South Wales remains under a total fire ban .. as scorching temperatures
head north in the next few days.

The mercury will soar past 40 degrees in western New South Wales today .. with the
heatwave sticking until Thursday.

A total fire ban has been issued for Eastern and Northern Riverina and the South Western
region .. where the Bureau of Meteorology says there's an extreme fire danger.

In Sydney .. temperatures in the CBD will start in the high 20s today and climb to
the mid-30s by Sunday.

In the city's west .. the mercury will rise to 35 degrees and will climb steadily to
42 degrees by Sunday.
